Without great communication skills, you'll never form great relationships with others in business and in life.
There are two parts to communication -- transmission and reception. According to noted leadership coach Zander Woodford-Smith, the biggest problem for most people is not transmitting. We are taught how to transmit from parents, teachers and bosses and mentors later in life, so we are constantly improving how to transmit messages -- but we're never really taught how to listen as much as we are to speak.
"We don't learn to listen," he says. "We think of listening as waiting for our turn to speak. And when we're supposed to be listening, we're thinking about what we're going to transmit."
